Calories 385 kcal
- 250 ml unsweetened soy milk
- 30 g chocolate protein powder
- 100 g banana fresh or frozen
- 20 g rolled oats
- 10 g chia seeds
- 15 g freshly ground flaxseed
- 10 g unsweetened cocoa powder
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 125 g plain Skyr
- Ice cubes optional
Pour the soy milk into the bottom of a high-speed blender.
Add the protein powder, banana, rolled oats, chia seeds, ground flaxseed, cocoa powder and cinnamon.
Spoon the Skyr over the top, sandwiching the dry ingredients between the milk and yogurt.
Secure the lid and blend on high for 45–60 seconds, or until smooth with no visible oat flakes or pockets of powder.
Add a few ice cubes for a colder, thicker smoothie, then blend for a further 15–20 seconds.
Pour into a large glass and serve immediately. For a thinner consistency, blend in a little more soy milk.
Variations and Substitutions
If you prefer a different flavour, swap the chocolate protein powder and cocoa for vanilla protein powder and add a pinch of nutmeg or extra cinnamon for a lighter, spiced smoothie. Fresh or frozen berries also work well, adding a slightly tart flavour that balances the sweetness of the banana. For a richer smoothie, replace half the banana with a tablespoon of natural peanut or almond butter. If you enjoy coffee, add a shot of chilled espresso for a mocha-style breakfast smoothie. If you don't have Skyr, plain Greek yogurt is the closest substitute and produces a very similar texture. Whole flaxseeds can be used instead of ground flaxseed, but grinding them first improves both the texture and nutrient absorption. This recipe is naturally vegetarian. It can easily be made vegan by using a plant-based protein powder and dairy-free high-protein yogurt in place of the Skyr. To make it gluten-free, simply use certified gluten-free rolled oats.
